Tools You Need

  • mIRC
  • xChat users can skip right to XDCC or Fserv

mIRC

First thing you need is to get the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client, mIRC.

http://www.mirc.com/

You can find the full cracked version on WarezNet.

Once you have installed and registered the program, now you need to set it up. (Screenshots needed)

Fill out you Full Name, Email Address (Obviously you might not want to use your real ones) and then choose a Nickname and an Alternative incase someone in the same Network has the same nick as you.

Next go to DCC > Ignore, still in mIRC Options. Click on the drop down Method: and make sure it's "Disabled". This is so you will not automatically decline files that you wish to download. You might also want to disable sounds by unchecking "Enable Sounds" under Sounds in mIRC Options, as the beeping and ringing of the mIRC client can sometimes get a bit annoying.

You can then go through and configure any other options you wish to.

These are probably the minimum requirements you need to use mIRC appropriately.

Now click OK.

You are now ready to download using IRC.

Methods

There are 2 main download methods (xdcc and fserv , tdcc too but the directions are the same as fserv

For all methods: 1. Go to mirc options ( Alt + O ) 2. Click "DCC" 3. For on send request, put auto get file and minimize. if file exists, resume 4. For DCC Chat request, put auto accept and minimize (If you really wanted to, you could put show request for steps 3 and 4, but youd have to wait around on teh pc till your spot in que comes up, and then click it within x amount of seconds, or you loose your spot, so 3 and 4 are the best settings) 5. Expand DCC. 6. Click DCC -> ignore and set the method to disabled, and prevent it from turning on again. 7. In DCC -> options, uncheck show warning 8. In DCC -> Server, check enable dcc server on port 59, and listen for send, chat and fserv

XDCC

This is the most probable method of downloading.

1. Type xdcc list in the channel unless the topic says not to. This will give you a list of bot contents.

Note: if the chanel has the mode +m, you cannot perform steps 1 and 2. If it says no xdcc list, and does not have +m, you will have to wait until the bot lists itself, then skip on to step 3, or wait a while then use step 2.

2. Press ctrl + f and find the file you want. 3. The line that has the name of the file you want has this information: (Bot Name) #(pack number) (size) (release name) Example: (+Pictures) #2 [ 1M] My family photos

Note: Packetnews, and other irc search engines will have the following fields that are of concern to you. Read the file description so you get the right file.

Bot name, pack number, slots and queue. A shorter queue is good, but more slots open is better.

Packetnews can also be used to list channels, by clicking Networks, then choosing the network, then the channel.

Packetnews is located at:

http://www.packetnews.com

4. To download this file, you use the command: /msg (bot name) xdcc send #(pack number) 5. If step 4 fails (you do not get a que or a send): /ctcp (bot name) xdcc send #(pack number) 6. If step 5 fails (you do not get a que or a send): check the bot's ad to see if it has a different command (trigger) 7. Stay in the channel until you get your send

METHOD 1

Using a Fserv Navigator Fserv Navigators are great addon's that allow you to go through a fserv, after typing in just !list. Its double click simplicity helps any user to download files off Fserv's.

1. Download a fserv navigator. I will be using RenRen's Fserv navigator from

http://adrian.saxtus.gr/rfn.htm

2. Unzip fserv navigator into your mirc directory/rfn. 3. Execute the command /load -rs rfn\rfn-setup.mrc 4. A bunch of options come up, just add the channels you browse in the channel tab. 5. type in !list then press ctrl+f12

YOUR DONE WITH A FSERV NAVIGATOR... CONGRATS!!!

METHOD 2

1. type in @find (thing you want, be specific) 2. You will recieve messages in the channel and queries, that say a trigger, and the directory the file is in. 3. Type the trigger in the channel window 4. A dcc chat will pop up (its icon is 2 pc's connected together) 5. In the dcc chat, type in cd (directory) Ex: <Blasteredge> 50 files found <<Sysreset 2.50>> Trigger: [/ctcp Blasteredge My anime rulez] <Blasteredge> [Naruto\naruto\naruto22.avi] <Blasteredge> Too many results to display.

The commands i would type would be: /ctcp Blasteredge My anime rulez cd Naruto\naruto 6. Type get (file name) All commands used would be: /ctcp Blasteredge My anime rulez cd Naruto\naruto get naruto22.avi

Note: these are case sensitive 7. Exit the dcc chat, and stay on the channel.

Tips: 1. Fserv's tend to be less reliable, and slower, since they are run from homes mostly, and are usually additions to an irc client (Examples are sysreset and invision and excursion) 2. Fserv's sometimes use an "Alternate Serving Method". Type in the command they give you, and forward the ports that are in the command to access the server.

An example of this is: <Blasteredge> This server is using an alternate serving method. Please use /dccserver +sc on 59

So i would type: /dccserver +sc on 59

and i would forward port 59 if i was using a firewall and/or router

Note: Blasteredge is a made up name....

Have fun, dont leech too much!

The next install ment will be how to setup your own bot (You can read Iroffer/kiri help files and figure out how to setup those yourself) and how to setup your own fserv (You can read the Sysreset/Invision/Excursion help files, and figure out how to setup those yourself).

Note: Iroffer is command line, and multiplatform. Kiri has a gui and is windows only. Iroffer is better, but if you cannot handle the command line, go Kiri. Iroffer has an extensive config file, so it is great for all users.

Setting up your own fserv is very easy, all you need to do is just add a few options, forward your port that its using, and your set.

Also, please do not setup a xdcc bot that is an adition to a client, it introduces a bunch of complications, like speed lowering, and pools, which are a waste of effort. Iroffer and kiri are the way to go.

Tools:
Mirc - http://mirc.com (if you dont have this, you may as well give up)

-=[XDCC BOTS]=-
iRoffer - http://iroffer.org/
Kiri - http://kiri.zsoft.co.uk/

-=[MIRC SCRIPT ADD ON's THAT HAVE FSERV'S]=-
Invision - http://invision.lebyte.com/
Sysreset - http://www.sysreset.com/
UPP - http://upp.monkey-pirate.com/
Excursion - http://excursion.cjb.net/

Note : There are millions of these, I am just posting my favorites (Sysreset is my favorite out of all of these :D, because it is just a server addition. Invision is a great all around script for most people.)
Note: Many people choose to have one script running for the fserv, and another to chat with. A common setup is sysreset for file serving, and invision for chatting.

-=[ Standalone FSERV ]=-
NOTE: STRONGLY NOT RECOMENDED - USE AN XDCC BOT INSTEAD

The only one I know of is the one written by Kib at Zhentarim Divx.

You can find it in Zhentarim's IRC channel, on the fserv kibserv.

Zhentarim divx : http://zhentarim.net/ (Their IRC chanel is listed there)

Kibserv's source is "kibserv.pl" and it was written in perl.

Once again, GO WITH A STANDALONE XDCC BOT IF POSSIBLE.
