WarezNET NFO Database
From Wiki
Greetings everyone. The WarezNET NFO database is an unofficial section of the wiki started by me - gLiTcH_. It is purely experimental and may or may not be continued depending on the staff's action. It's aim is to provide quick NFO links to all warez that are posted in WarezNET and even serve as a guide in finding quality scene releases (in case releases links go dead and are moved to the Recycle Bin).
Again this is purely experimental and also a way to show my desire to help the community. At the moment I'm working on this project alone and if anybody wishes to participate. Read on. :)

How to upload an NFO to the database
Creating an NFO is easy. Follow the simple steps below and you should be able to create one in less than 2 minutes. :)
- Take this URL:
http://wiki.wareznet.net/wiki/
and add the release name at the end of the address (Observe that there are no spaces and separated by period)
Ex:http://wiki.wareznet.net/wiki/Easy.File.Sharing.FTP.Server.v3.2.Incl.Keymaker-ARN
- If the NFO doesn't exist, click the "edit" tab above.
- In the big text box, begin with a "pre" tag (note HTML not BBcode/Wikicode). This applies to all NFOs.
- Open up the NFO file that you want to upload in DAMN NFO Viewer and copy/paste all of the text below the "pre" tag.
- Remove or mask any serial numbers in the NFO. This is very important; to avoid this step, I recommend you download the NFO from nforce.nl.
- Close it with a "/pre" tag.
- Immediately below, add the category in this syntax:
{{NFO|CategoryName}}Where CategoryName can be - Application, Game, Movie, Music, Misc. (I may add more categories in the future)
- Click "Save Page" (though for good cause, preview before saving. :) )
- The URL of the page is the address of the new NFO you uploaded.
Here's an example:
Rules and Guidelines (subject to be changed)
- Make sure it is in proper release name format (No spaces, separated by period - Ex. Easy.File.Sharing.FTP.Server.v3.2.Incl.Keymaker-ARN).
- Copy paste the NFO in the edit box and make sure it is enclosed in "pre" tags.
- It is advisable too to use DAMN NFO Viewer and copying the text from there as so far this produced no errors when pasted on to the wiki.
- After the NFO text (below the closing "pre" tag) categorize the NFO (Application/Game/Movie/Music/Misc.). Syntax below:
- Only upload an NFO link if the actual release has or was been posted in WarezNET (this rule may be removed, but I wanted this so we can get some sort of statistic on how many legit releases made it to WarezNET). Currently I am hotlinking all my uploads to pubs and adding new NFOs as I upload.
- DOUBLE CHECK the NFO release and MAKE SURE there are NO SERIALS in it. This is due to the rule that there are no serials allowed in standard posts. If there are serials, please mask them (i.e. XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX). If you think that your not observant enough in posting NFOs, better not contribute here. :)
- No uploading of images, text just looks better and consumes less.
- No vandalisms please unless you intend to paste the actual ASCII. (Yes some NFOs I put need to ASCII corrections)
- Once again these rules are subjected to be changed by well anyone, after all this is a wiki. :)
- Read the Wiki Guidelines page for help on editing wiki's
- Don't worry about screw ups because I will gladly fix any new entries when I have the chance. :)
- Suggestions are always welcome. :)
Sections
To start this off, I made 5 categories. I will focus mainly on the Application NFOs
Possible Uses for the WarezNET NFO Database
- For hotlinking uploads you make to pubs to their respective NFO pages. Currently I am doing this somewhere. :)
- Instead of putting an external NFO link such as nforce.nl to the download descriptions, we can use the link to the wiki, that way all our content stays in place.
- If the indexes are updated, we can visualize how many scene releases made it to WarezNET.
- Opens up a great new way for members even with slow connections to contribute to WarezNET.
- Provides an alternate way to search for a release (wiki does have a search tool). :)
Future of the Project
- For the meantime I'll focus solely on Application releases.
- Talked this over with [DM] he might make an automated script, but this is most likely to be a much lesser priority. :)
- I will continue to hotlink my posts and uploads unless requested by staff members.
- If progress goes well, I may go as far as adding additional categories such as Release Groups and tag all NFOs too. Yes it is tedious, but can be done very quickly. :)
- This database may be replaced by a better database, again this is purely experimental and its a personal way of mine too to learn the wiki more.
